Job Interview Experience

How to get ready for an interview at WestJet.

Hiring Process

Preliminary Phone ScreensWestJet hiring representatives start the interview process with initial phone screenings after reviewing online applications. To ensure candidates meet all requirements of the open position, the phone interview typically begins with an introductory conversation covering fundamental information, such as employment history and relevant language skills.

Selected candidates move on to in-person interviews, which are frequently conducted by a panel of hiring managers and human resource personnel from WestJet.

What Comes Next? The first in-person interview, which usually lasts for a half-hour, provides WestJet hiring managers with a fleeting but insightful look at applicants’ personalities, social skills, and work ethics. Candidates should make appropriate plans and research the low-cost carrier before the interview process as WestJet frequently hires individuals who are already familiar with the company’s culture and overall perception of the airline.

Bring Your Own QuestionsPre-interview research should also result in pertinent questions to pose at the conclusion of each interview to learn more about working for WestJet and to demonstrate sincere interest in the position.

Second Interview Expectations

Regardless of career level, WestJet uses multiple rounds of interviews to fill the majority of open positions.

Second interviews frequently take place in groups, with 10 to 30 candidates typically attending each session. The group interview typically lasts an hour or longer and consists primarily of various roleplaying scenarios and interactive exercises.

Candidates frequently have to speak in front of the group for an allotted amount of time and about a topic that is chosen at random.

Job Simulation The second interview is used by WestJet hiring managers to gauge how candidates will behave in simulated work settings, how they will interact with coworkers, and how they will handle pressure.

The interview process for more advanced positions generally varies depending on the desired job title, while WestJet entry-level positions typically do not require any additional interviews.

On August 4th, 2022, I submitted my application, and a week later I received an invitation to participate in a One-Way Hirevue interview. The interview takes about 20-30 minutes. There are 7 questions in total, but some of them are double-sided, so it seems like there should be 9. You receive the questions, have one minute to consider your response, and three minutes to record your answers. I dislike one-way interviews and would rather have had a phone interview or a zoom/teams interview.
