Madeleine Arnold has made nearly 100 friends in the past 1.5 years. She added it up.
She may have made about 50 of those friends during her two-week visit to Mobile, Alabama, where she competed as Utah for the Distinguished Young Women national finals this summer.
The Highland, Utah, resident who is 18 and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came in first place in the competition. She has enjoyed getting to know the other girls while competing in regional, state, and national events.
Arnold told the Deseret News in an interview, “It really is like a sisterhood.” “I really cherish those relationships with those girls. “.
According to Arnold, the Distinguished Young Women program offers scholarships. It encourages cultivating talents, gaining practical knowledge, boosting self-assurance, and volunteering.
The young women who compete are scored in five categories: academics (25 percent); a 10-minute interview (25 percent); a fitness routine performed live on stage during the competition (15 percent); a talent displayed live on stage (20 percent); and onstage self-expression (15 percent).
The outreach program of the Distinguished Young Women program, according to Arnold, a pianist by trade, is to inspire girls to “be their best selves.”
She advised taking stock of who you are, embracing what makes you unique, and building on it in order to “be your best self.” Be confident in yourself, and then constantly strive to improve. ”.
“You don’t have to be perfect. It’s about progress, not giving the best performance or the most perfect answers, she said.
According to Arnold, Distinguished Young Women also places a strong emphasis on service. One of her favorite aspects of the program was serving others.
She explained that we should grow internally and in all of our abilities and skills so that we can then look outward. “That’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned. ”.
In addition, Arnold said that the program frequently required participants to step outside of their comfort zones: “But I think that in doing so, it expands your comfort zone,” she added.
She was initially anxious before interviews and public speaking, but Arnold claims that now she feels more confident.
The gospel gives her life perspective and meaning, she said. “That gave me a lot of assurance and peace before I entered.” ”.
She said, adding that the group prayed before each performance, “It was kind of neat to see lots of different faiths come together but to share the common belief in God.”
She didn’t have much contact with her own family during her two weeks in Alabama because she was staying with a host family, so she frequently prayed to God.
Arnold took first place in the regional, state, and national competitions, earning a total of $30,000 in scholarships. She will begin studying biology at Brigham Young University this fall with the intention of going on an LDS mission and enrolling in medical school.

I advise beginning very literally, but after everything is in place, feel free to rearrange things as necessary. For instance, a sheer long sleeve will be included in the 3/4 sleeve category because of its suitability for warmer temperatures due to the sheer factor, etc. Additionally, feel free to add your dresses into these categories using your own discretion if, like me, you enjoy dressing up for everyday activities. After all, they should be worn for more than just special occasions!
These gorgeous khaki colored faux leather paper bag top pants are some of the most comfortable pants I own. These pants are buttery soft, slightly cropped, and the high paper bag top is extremely figure flattering. Dress them up or dress them down, but if you’re going to buy one piece of leather, these come highly recommended.
You can easily follow along and get a full 64 ounces per day, but I’ll admit going from 0-64oz over night was a little overwhelming for me. I felt like I was so full of water I didn’t even want to eat! That’s when I readjusted to 32oz a day. My thoughtful husband bought me a water bottle with foolproof time stamp markings on the side. Once my body has adjusted, maybe I’ll try 64 ounces in 2021! Discover the best trails with
It also explains how frequently people stand, looking into their cluttered wardrobe longing for “something to wear,” as studies have shown that on average, people only utilize 20% of their wardrobe. I’m here to share my system with you because of that. You will have a comfortably full (not overflowing) wardrobe full of clothes that fit and flatter, and ultimately, clothes you LOVE wearing, if you stick to these instructions.
Now, this step will be particular to where you live; as an illustration, I’ve included mine below. Here, we’re making a list of the temperatures you should reach for each of these sections. Once you’ve determined your highs and lows and whether you experience all four seasons, create a list similar to mine below. (For the record, I’ve always lived in regions with four extremely extreme seasons.)
