Senior Software Engineer Interview
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Rally Health
Interview
Rally are a selective company and so the screening and interview process is a long one. The engineers I spoke with were professional and friendly. The questions are thoughtful and open ended with the interviewers exploring several aspects of the problem even after you solve it to get a sense of your thinking process.
- Typical technical interview questions for a senior engineering position
Software Engineer II Interview
I applied online. I interviewed at Rally Health in Apr 2021
Interview
The interview process was very smooth and lasted about a week (my recruiter was able to move things along very quickly). It started with a basic recruiter phone screen followed by an online coding challenge (two medium difficulty LeetCode questions). After passing that stage, the next step was a 5-part onsite interview stage. The interviews were: 2 coding (1 easy LeetCode problem each), 1 architecture, 1 culture, 1 product. All interviews went well and the interviewers were very nice. Overall, the process was amazing.

User Experience Designer Interview
I interviewed at Rally Software
Interview
After a brief phone screening and a second more in-depth phone interview with another UX designer, I was asked to complete a design review of their application as an interview exercise. Exercises are an excellent way of assessing a candidate’s quality, but normally they involve something that is clearly an academic exercise: writing a sample program, solving a sample problem, purely to demonstrate your skills. In this case they requested an actual design review of their product including identifying problem areas, proposing solutions, and describing a method for testing the proposed solutions. Although I had some misgivings about spending that amount of time on something so early in the interview process, I decided to proceed in good faith and completed the exercise. I have extensive experience in conducting this type of review so I feel confident in saying the quality of my work was good. However immediately after receiving my exercise, I was informed that my qualifications did not match the role. I was very disappointed with the timing of that decision. They were well aware of my qualifications when they asked me to complete the exercise. I believe my work product was excellent, but even if I am overestimating the quality of that work, at a minimum it was good enough to advance to a full interview. Honestly I am left with the impression that either they never had any intention of hiring me but were interested getting a free design review, or their hiring process is so disorganized that they waste a lot of people’s time by asking them to complete exercises before they actually make a basic evaluation about whether they are qualified.
- The request to provide a design review of their application was unexpected (but not difficult).
Marketing Coordinator Interview

Interview
Fast. The first interview wasn’t very helpful as it’s a recruiter so you can’t ask much about the specific position. They seem really nice and put together but it was hard to get any specific answers from the recruiter.

It’s likely that Rally Health is still a startup if you’re interviewing for a position there. With the help of this question, interviewers can gauge how well you’ve worked with a small team and how well you’d fit in with their company. If you haven’t worked in a startup environment before, think about describing a time when you were a part of a smaller team or project.
Example: “I spent five years working as a nurse practitioner at a large hospital before deciding to pursue a more entrepreneurial endeavor. I had the chance to collaborate closely with the other staff members during the opening process because I was one of the first nurses hired when my hospital opened a new wing. We all shared knowledge with one another and created our own systems for finishing tasks. I believe that this experience has adequately equipped me to work in a startup environment. ”.
Example: “I’ve worked with databases my entire career and have five years of experience in the healthcare industry.” In my previous role as an IT specialist, I was in charge of keeping up with and making sure that all of our company’s databases were secure. When new databases were required, I assisted in their creation and made sure they were compatible with the already-existing systems. ”.
Example: “When working on a project, I use a variety of metrics to assess how well it is progressing, such as customer satisfaction surveys, conversion rates, and time spent on site. I also consider the volume of repeat business we receive and the revenue our goods or services generate. These are all crucial elements for determining a project’s success. ”.
Ex. “In my previous position, I dealt with a patient who was very upset about the length of the wait in our emergency room.” We were falling behind schedule due to the hospital’s high patient volume. I listened to their concerns and apologized for the inconvenience. Then, I went over the reasons why we were dealing with higher than usual volumes and the steps we were taking to guarantee that all patients received timely care. ”.
