Interviewer:Please describe your job title and primary duties. The Home Depot Deliveries Associate:I am a deliveries associate. Therefore, whenever someone places an online order for in-store pickup that they anticipate receiving the same day, I grab those Every time someone orders deliveries, I prepare them in advance of the delivery date. And typically I load the truck myself. Therefore, if they ordered drywall, I must load them onto the truck using a forklift. And that’s mainly my deliveries, responsibilities. Whenever I have downtime I help in every department. I’m all over the store. I walk a lot. To get a job at Home Depot, you must, I believe, be 18 years old, but once you work there, the hiring standards are actually very lax. As long as I don’t make any mistakes with the deliveries, at least where I’m at, they don’t really say much to me.

The Home Depot Deliveries Associate:I like a lot of people and I guess the freedom of deliveries in general. The interviewer:What was your favorite part about working there? I wouldn’t enjoy my job as much if I worked in a department like hardware or lumber because I’d be limited to that. And in deliveries I’m like everywhere.

Interviewer:Please describe the application and interview process. The Home Depot Deliveries Associate: So I applied for the job online and was contacted about a month later. But every other candidate I’ve known who was hired came from that, obviously, or they went through a week or two of walk-in interviews. One of my friends was hired in that way, through a simple walk-in interview. They hired her on the spot.

The Home Depot Deliveries Associate:I applied for a garden position, so the interviewer didn’t ask me any questions about that. It was a seasonal position. They simply inquired about my knowledge of plants, yard work, and other activities that you engage in when working in the yard. But since they were only looking to hire people who could essentially lift, it didn’t matter to them that I didn’t have much experience at that point. So the questions they seem kind of just like empty. However, they mostly only applied to the department for which I was applying.

How did you learn that you got the job? The Home Depot Deliveries Associate:By phone call, according to the interviewer. A month or possibly three weeks after my interview It wasn’t too long.

What made you stand out from the competition, the interviewer asked The Home Depot Deliveries Associate? I’m not sure if anything made me stand out at that point because they had just hired 20 new employees. I think I was just one of the first to arrive, but after a three-month trial period, they hired me on presumably because I didn’t really call off and I completed the majority of the work.

What other pieces of advice do you have for someone looking for work? The Home Depot Deliveries Associate:Honestly, just tell them what they want to hear. If you’re trying to apply at Home Depot, they might hire you if it’s a seasonal position. They just want to make sure you’re not crazy if it’s a cashier position. That’s pretty much it.
