What skills do you think are most valuable for a GIS specialist?

To do their jobs well, GIS specialists need a variety of hard and soft skills. In order to understand what you value in your work and whether those values align with the company’s goals, the hiring manager may inquire about the skills you consider to be most crucial.

Example: “While GIS specialists should possess a range of abilities, I believe that patience, technical problem-solving, and communication are the most crucial ones. Because it takes time to gather and analyze the data before creating the map, patience is crucial. Technical problem-solving because different programs may be used to collect or represent the information, and communication because it is necessary to explain GIS to colleagues who are not GIS experts. “.

Jobs that use the GIS

The careers listed below may suit you if you’re interested in working with geographic information systems:

Explain the difference between geo-coding and geo-referencing.

This question requires specific GIS knowledge to answer. This or a similar question from the hiring manager may be used to determine whether or not you are knowledgeable about the nuances of the position.

Example: “While geo-referencing and geo-coding are similar, there is a crucial difference between the two. The process of assigning coordinates on a map to written information, such as a place name or address, is known as geocoding. The process of georeferencing entails taking a satellite image and giving it a set of map coordinates. The outcome (the coordinate assignment) is the same, but the method used to get there is different. “.
