Online Grocery Pick-Up Clerk Interview

Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Fry’s Food (Tempe, AZ) in Jul 2022

Interview

After I applied online, I received an email from a recruiter telling me the location I applied to was having open interviews and to go during those hours. The manager that interviewed me was friendly, but didn’t seem to know much about the hiring process. They said they weren’t sure that they were hiring for the position I applied for and that they really needed cashiers instead. When I mentioned that I have no experience as a cashier, the interviewer actually said to me that the training they give to the cashiers is pretty basic, and then laughed about it.The questions were fairly simple, but had little to do with any skills I might have, and were instead all about how I interact with other people.I’ve worked for Fry’s in the past, and the manager didn’t know how long it would be to hear back due to the rehiring process and didn’t know if I should expect an email or a phone call.A few days later I got a call to discuss a position, but missed the call. The caller ID did not come up as Fry’s (previous calls from Fry’s stores have shown up as such on my phone) and was marked as potential spam. There was no attempt at a recall when I didn’t respond right away, no email, and no form of update on my online application. Overall, this whole hiring process has been a mess.
