On Sept. 10, Poehler’s “Smart Girls” organization launched the #SmartGirlsAsk movement in an effort to foster more insightful and cerebral conversations on the red carpet. With the Emmy Awards taking place on Sept. 20, Smart Girls hopes that a few of these inquiries will be used this Sunday. Advertisement.

The campaign, which builds on The Representation Projects’ #AskHerMore, received hundreds of comments on Twitter from users of all genders and even received a shout-out from Katie Lowes and Hillary Clinton. What advice would you give your younger self? and What is your favorite sports team were among the inquiries.

The resounding support for #SmartGirlsAsk demonstrates that deeper discussions can and should take place on the red carpet. It’s wonderful to hear about a woman’s stunning gown, but it’d be even better to learn about her professional history and the achievements that brought her to the red carpet in the first place.
