Application
The submission of a CASAC application to the OASAS Credentialing Unit is the first step in the credentialing procedure. Applications are accepted continuously, reviewed in the order that they are received, and are valid for five years after the postmark date.
Your application will be examined by the OASAS Credentialing Unit to ensure that all eligibility requirements have been met. A review summary will be provided by the Credentialing Unit based on the information in your application. Any requirements that have been met will be noted, along with any that are still unmet. Determine what else you need to submit for review using the review summary. Throughout the 5-year application period, you can submit items whenever you want without paying any additional fees. Please make sure that any additional submissions have your full name, a phone number, or an email address, and that they are legible so that they can be compared to your initial application. With each submission, a fresh review summary will be given to you.
You will be informed when you are qualified to take the test and given the registration details. You will be informed when you are qualified to receive your CASAC-Trainee. Your application (and CASAC-T, if issued) will expire if you are unable to finish all the requirements for a CASAC by the end of the five-year application period. Even though you can reapply and pay a new fee, you won’t get another CASAC-T.

After meeting the following requirements, applicants may be given consideration for a CASAC Trainee certificate.
350 clock hours of the required education and training
4,000 hours of relevant work experience, 85 clock hours of education and training in Section 1 related to understanding substance use disorders, and 15 hours of counseling-specific ethics are required.
You must submit an application along with the necessary supporting documentation, and after OASAS reviews and approves it, you will receive information on when to have your fingerprints taken for a background check and CASAC-T issued. Prior to receiving your OASAS certificate, you cannot refer to yourself as a CASAC-T or perform at that level in an OASAS Certified or Funded setting. Your CASAC Trainee certificate will be valid for five years from the time OASAS issues it, as long as your application is still active. The CASAC Trainee certificate is not renewable.
