Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties. Ralphs Stocker: I stocked shelves, hung things up, and made sure the main floor was clear for customers and other things. I’m not sure if that’s what it’s called.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?Ralphs Stocker: It was good. I mean, I did interact with customers but not as frequently as other associates. Yeah, I mean, it’s not demanding either.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee. Ralphs Stocker: Right. I would go in to of course check in and clock in. Then, I would restock a cart or an employee’s pile of clothes, shoes, or something else that needed it. I might check the back to see if there is anything that needs to be hung up or put on the shelves.

Interviewer: How would you describe the process of applying and being interviewed? Ralphs Stocker: I applied online, and they called me in. We had an interview, as well, at the location. There was a back office. They asked me basic questions like, “Have I worked for Ralphs before? Have I worked for any other retail companies?” and “What kind of experience do I have?” They also asked if I had ever led a group of people.

Interviewer: What made you different from other applicants? Ralphs Stocker: I think it might have been that I was a little outgoing and willing to just give answers. I did have leadership experience and stuff.

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties. Ralphs Employee: My job title was a courtesy clerk, and I was kind of a bagger. I would go outside and maybe do some carts, go sometimes restock or front the items. Simply put, you go in front of the drinks sometimes, and a lot of people take that when they’re buying it, the drinks and stuff are back, or the bread might be back. So you just pull it forward and make it all look nice. You would sometimes go around and ask customers who look like they’re looking for something they can’t find if they need any help. Managers would sometimes come around asking you to do little tasks, maybe go clean something. You check the bathrooms, make sure the carts are full and clean, and look for lost dogs in the parking lot, among other basic tasks.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee. Ralph’s worker: At first, you just bag things and do that for a couple of hours. After that, everyone takes turns being a courtesy clerk. For an hour, you’d go outside and do carts. Every hour, someone else takes a turn going to the bathroom. When you come back in, you just sign off. After making sure there is toilet paper and nothing on the floor, you clean it up and use the bathroom. Go back and bag, and then switch places with someone else based on where you are on the list for the hour.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?Ralphs Employee: I did an online application. It takes about 45 minutes. They ask you questions about you, your background, security check. They ask you about your personality and how you would act in different situations. If they like what they hear, they’ll call you and set up a time for you to come in for an interview. Then, the manager or store director would talk to you, do a background check, and make sure you pass a drug test. Then after that, if they like everything, then you get the job. It’s pretty fast. There is a different store where you get trained, and then you come back when you’re ready to do the work.

What made you different from other applicants? Ralph’s Employee: I think it’s more my personality and how I talk to people. I try to be fair, and I’ll always hear what they have to say. I kind of showed that in the interview with them, and he really liked that.
