We want you to do your best, so we’ve put together our strongest tips for you to stand out in all the right ways.
We get it. Interviews can be intimidating (especially when it’s on video).
- Be authentic We want to see the real you, so use this time to show us. Answer the questions as if you were in front of the interviewer in person and just be yourself.
- Come preparedIt stands out when someone does their homework. Think about what might be asked in advance. You want to spend your time answering the questions, not thinking them through.
- Convey whats most importantThink about who you are and what you want us to know about you. What should we remember about you after the interview is over? Write these things down and tie your answers back to them.
- Dress appropriatelyWell be treating this just like a standard interview and hope you will too. Make sure to reflect your most professional self. Consider your posture and how you project yourself and match them as you would if you were meeting with us in person.
- Look into the camera – not at the screenEye contact is important. This will be our first impression of you, so establishing a personal connection can go a long way.
- Take a deep breathIts normal to be nervous. Most people feel the same way as you do! Take a moment to calm your nerves before starting. You want to appear confident, engaging and prepared.
- Not a finance guru? No problemWere not expecting you to be. Were here to grow with you. Focus on your strengths. If you share a passion for the industry, let us know.
- Delete the distractionsLook around. Would anything in the background be distracting to you speaking, or to us when viewing? Find a quiet place and try to tame down any tendency to fidget in your chair or with your hands. We want the focus to be on you.
- Test it outCan we hear you? Can we see you? If possible, do a test run, or two, to make sure everything is working correctly (sound, video, lighting, camera angle). We dont want anything to throw you off your game.
- Turn your experiences into takeawaysBe able to speak to whats on your resume, how you learned from it, and relate it to what were looking for. Why you, why us? Understand what you have to offer, and let us know why were a good fit for you.
The group discussion will last 20 minutes and you will be closely observed by graduate recruitment assessors throughout. Take leadership when possible but do not overpower others, encourage quieter members to have their ideas heard, and make efforts to keep the group focussed and within time constraints. Your interaction with team members in this task is key in this exercise, so be aware of the group dynamic in addition to the content of your ideas.
The second interview, like the first, is a competency-based interview. It differs from the first in that you will be assessed against competencies not yet covered in the first interview, and may face a few technical questions mixed in, so it is of course still important to be aware of the current state of financial markets.
You will have to discuss the marketing strategy for launching a new Nike product: Footwear for those aged 60+. What are the features of the new product? How should Nike market it, given a budget of $1 million? Your group must come to a consensus on how to allocate the budget, and you may be divided into different departments, and have to argue for why your department should receive a certain amount of funds.
A final test is administered, and is no less demanding. Failure to score adequately on this test may rest in dismissal from the rest of the assessment centre. It is 35 minutes long and consists of 40 questions. Move quickly and accurately and ensure you move on as soon as the allocated time for the question is up. The test is designed by SHL.
