We chatted with Lauren Kam, a Marketing & PR representative from Oak + Fort, to learn more about the brand and its aesthetic vision.
Is there anything in particular that inspires you when you’re conceptualizing your store and products that shapes your design philosophy?
We emphasize the essentials and value straightforward but thoughtful design. This philosophy permeates every aspect of our brand, including our products, editorial photoshoots, and store interior design. We are inspired by all types of architecture, design, and art.
Retail and fashion have become increasingly competitive markets. What distinguishes Oak + Fort from its peers?.
The distinctive aesthetic and style of Oak + Forts sets it apart from competing retailers. Our understated shapes highlight thoughtful design cues and textured fabrics. Our clothing pushes conventional boundaries while maintaining wearability and functionality, from oversized basics to statement silhouettes and reimagined classics that borrow from menswear.
What achievement for your business or the brand as a whole are you most proud of?
We are thrilled to have introduced Oak + Fort to the USA market in the last couple of years. We are looking forward to opening more locations in the USA this year to continue our expansion in North America. We are also delighted to have ventured into homeware – launching Oak + Fort Home in Fall 2016. Oak + Fort Home was a natural progression for Oak + Fort as it reflects our brands focus on lifestyle.

I ordered a straightforward jersey skirt (skirt 6019) from Oak + Fort about a month ago; has anyone else ordered from them? I somehow justified the somewhat expensive price (and the cost of having it shipped to the US) because I was so excited about it. I’ve worn the skirt about ten times at this point, and there are already three holes in it. When I first received the skirt, I took note of how thin the fabric was, but I sort of discounted it, thinking that I was just being overly cautious. I always hand wash my clothes and generally take good care of them because I mostly wear vintage clothing, so I feel pretty competent in this area.
Since this is my first post, I sincerely apologize if anything is wrong.
After I complained to Oak + Fort via email about how quickly the skirt was disintegrating, I received follow-up emails from a customer service representative who kept blaming me for the skirt’s deterioration and attempted to explain why clothing would fall apart after a month. Despite the fact that I sent them images of every hole in the skirt, they still won’t send me a replacement or offer me any kind of refund.
When I looked for reviews of them online, I found that about 70% of them were favorable and even mentioned how high the quality was. Some reviews that criticize the poor quality, particularly in light of the high price, are also included.
