Meijer General Merchandiser: So at Meijer I was put in as a GM, General Merchandiser. A general merchandiser’s main job is to go to whatever shelf they put you in that day, whether it’s for electronics, pets, home goods, or what’s the other one? HVC, like health and care products. You go get it, put it all in order, make sure all the labels are facing forward, and stack it all up. Then you do returns and help customers who have questions. They also put me mostly in charge of fashion, which means I had to move the clothes from the back of the store to the front, where they could fit. You are in charge of taking back items, folding them all, putting them on hangers, and helping customers again if they need help.

Meijer General Merchandiser: Managers were very approachable, but the coworkers inside your sections were usually downbeats. It’s really busy. Yeah, you have your slow days, but even then it’s still pretty busy. There’s a lot of customers.

Meijer General Merchandiser: What do you like and dislike about your current job? I think they gave us three words to describe ourselves. They did … Oh gosh. How would your coworkers describe you? And that’s about all I remember, like exactly. It was a lot of the basic ones.

Meijer General Merchandiser: After everything, it was right after the second interview, the second face-to-face interview. If he told you to go see this woman, you got the job; if he didn’t tell you to see her, you didn’t get the job. So it was just kind of right there.

It gets so full, so packed, so quick. As you work on a certain project, a lot of customers will come up to you and ask where things are or if the prices are correct, or something else. Food stamps start coming in on the first and third of every month, I think. Those days are also really, really busy.

It will take at least ten to fifteen minutes if you do it in person, no matter if this is your first job or you are trying to get another one. If it’s your first job, it will take at least fifteen minutes for you to complete the application. No, that will take you ten minutes because you won’t have any work experience in the past. That’s right, work experience. It will take at least ten minutes because it’s a short process. If you’re looking for another job, like a part time job then it’ll take fifteen minutes. Once you’re done with that, if you want to find another part-time job, they will ask for your resume. Once you give them the resume, they’ll review it. If they like what they see, they’ll call you in for an interview.
