There are countless job sites out there and in addition to job postings, a lot of these types of sites have also taken to giving candidates other tools to help them in their job search process. They may include blog posts on various job related topics, how to videos, ratings of prospective employers based on the reviews of past and present employees, networking opportunities and so on. Some of them are industry specific while others are a catch all for anything and everything. There are many out there that offer different things and thus sometimes it is hard find the one that will best suit an individual’s specific job-search needs.

Job boards and job aggregators share a few similarities, such as their help in finding open positions for individuals, but they also have some major differences. Job boards, like job aggregators, can have general postings available in a searchable format for users. Sometimes, job aggregators might even act as job boards, allowing individuals to post job positions on their website.

Webpages that act solely as job boards often post job opportunities for a specific industry, such as non-profits, education or medical, allowing individuals who are working in those industries to narrow and tailor their search. Job aggregators, however, obtain most of their posts by taking all the jobs postings from the job boards and adding them to their personal search engine.

Users can often search the website using multiple filters, such as keywords, salary, type of position and more. Here is a list of steps you can use to help you use job aggregators:

1. Use the right keywords

Using the right keywords in a job aggregator can be helpful when searching for different open positions because it can allow users to search by job title, company and even credentials. This can allow individuals to find positions theyre qualified for and help them narrow their search. For example, if someone with a masters degree is looking for an open marketing position, they could search for “marketing masters degree.” If an individual who just earned their undergraduate degree is looking to star their career in quality assurance, they could search for “entry-level quality assurance.”

It can also be helpful to search for different job titles that resemble your career of interest. This can help you find other job opportunities using unique keywords. For example, if youre interested in a sales position, you could also search for “sales associate,” “sales person” or “seller.”

While searching job aggregators, the webpage might have helpful information where they found the job posting, or even a link that you can follow to the company careers page or original posting. Clicking on these links and viewing the source of the aggregators available jobs can help you discover more information about the position, possibly help you find more job opportunities and inform you whether the position is still available.

This can be helpful because some job aggregators might take longer to update their database, so you might be able to find recently posted jobs at a company, or discover any major application deadlines for the position youre interested in.

For example, if a company doesnt have a marketing manager position available, consider searching for a marketing specialist or coordinator position.
