Cashier/Barista Interview
I applied online. I interviewed at Gong Cha (Gold Coast)
Interview
The interview was fairly simple and chill. Most of it depends on my availability, but the manager also asked about work experience and why I wanted to work at Gong Cha. I got the email about my acceptance later in the day.
- Tell me about your work experience
job listing put out on the 18th, i applied on the 19th, recieved a text on the 21st, interviewed on the 22nd.
firstly, it seemed so much like an orientation. the interviewer went through 1 double sided sheet of info, which basically talked about the gongchas rules and regulations. stuff like health and hygiene (ie. closed shoes, no dangly earrings, needing to take a training course/test, minimum wage pay etc). i noticed that there was a second sheet of info that she did not go over with me.
fifthly, i was never asked about my availability. im not concerned about the “when can u start” question, since the store hasnt opened, but she never clarified on the times i was available to work. even though i listed it on the job google form, isnt it some protocol to clarify and confirm??
secondly, she didnt ask me any content-y questions. one was that was i was aware the new store (not open yet) i was applying to was 14 miles from my location, which i was totally fine with. the other being what i was doing at the moment (semi gap year, so employment would only be for 6 months). thats all. nothing else, aside from the normal “do u have any questions for us?” which i didnt, because of blanked out and literally rhe only question i had was “do u not have any more questions for ME!?”
fourthly, she never asked to clarify my references. although i had put them down on my CV that i handed to this guy sitting next to her, she never even confirmed with the guy that they had a reference for me.
Here’s how to serve the answers to the questions your interviewer has brewed up. Kathleen Walder, Monster Contributor
When you go to a popular coffee shop, you’ll quickly notice barista jobs involve far more than pouring coffee for customers. With the steam of the milk, the sound of the espresso machine, and the way the barista tops off your coffee in an intricate pattern that floats above the foam while sometimes juggling two to three orders at once, he looks like an artist or orchestra conductor at work.
Excited to start creating your own coffee art? Before you start your new job, you might be invited to an interview. Barista interview questions will focus on your technical skills as well as knowledge of different types of coffee beans, where they come from, and how they’re harvested. Some café interview questions will be about whether you went to coffee training school or if you learned to operate coffee-making machines on the job. Coffee shop interview questions will also center around your customer service skills.
