How do you become an Army Ranger?
Army Rangers typically sign the Option 40 contract when they enlist to participate in the Ranger Assessment and Training Program, or RASP. Any male U.S. citizen who wants to attend RASP must be S. citizen who voluntarily enlisted. They must not be physically restricted, be in good standing academically, and have no recent incidents involving alcohol or drugs.
A minimum of three years of service and the completion of at least one duty station are required for soldiers and officers who did not enlist under the Option 40 contract. Rangers may be officers from any branch of the armed forces, but they must at least hold the rank of first lieutenant, captain, or major. Officers must be able to obtain a top-secret clearance, while soldiers must be able to hold a secret security clearance.
Before attending RASP, new recruits must complete extensive training.
RASP candidates must also meet certain assessment minimums after all that training. A General Technical Score of at least 105 is required. Additionally, you must pass the Army Physical Fitness Test with a minimum of 240 points, with at least 80 percent on each section.
