Paying your electricity bill on time each month is important to keep your lights on and avoid late fees. But for many busy customers, finding the time to mail a check or pay online can be a challenge. That’s why Georgia Power offers a variety of convenient bill pay options to fit any schedule or location. With over 3000 authorized payment locations across Georgia, it’s easier than ever to pay your power bill.
Authorized Payment Locations
Georgia Power has partnered with many major retailers in Georgia to offer authorized payment locations (APLs). APLs allow customers to pay their power bill in person with cash or debit card. Over 3000 APLs across the state open early close late, and are open weekends for maximum convenience. Major APL partners include
- Kroger – 126 locations
- Walmart – 117 locations
- CVS Pharmacy – 95 locations
- Walgreens – 91 locations
- Dollar General – Over 800 locations
- Family Dollar – Over 700 locations
To find an APL near you, visit the Georgia Power website and enter your zip code in the locator tool. You can also text the word GPPAY to 99123 and receive a text back with the five closest locations.
APLs offer two easy ways to pay your bill:
Pay by Account Number
If paying by account number, be sure to bring your latest power bill or have your account number handy. The account number is located on the top left corner of your Georgia Power bill.
To pay, simply go to the customer service desk or money services counter at the retailer and provide your account number. Payments must be made in cash or with a debit card. Credit cards and checks are not accepted.
Ask the cashier to process the payment through CheckFreePay to ensure same-day posting to your account.
Pay using the CheckOut Barcode
Newer Georgia Power bills have a CheckOut barcode printed on the back. This barcode links directly to your account.
To pay using the barcode, have the cashier at the APL scan the barcode at checkout. Most major retailers like Kroger, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Dollar General, and Family Dollar accept barcode payments.
Again, payments must be made in cash or debit card to ensure quick processing.
Other Convenient Ways to Pay
In addition to APLs across Georgia, Georgia Power offers payment options to fit any lifestyle:

-

-

-

-
Ways to Pay App – This free app lists retail and grocery stores accepting cash bill payments within 50 miles of your location.
When to Pay Your Bill
Georgia Power bills are due 15 days after the billing date shown on your statement. Any payment received after the due date is considered late and subject to a 1 time 5% late fee.
To avoid late fees, pay your bill early or consider enrolling in auto-pay. If your main payment method is cash, pay a few days before the due date to allow time for processing and posting to your account.
The easiest way to remember your bill’s due date is to pay it around the same time each month, like when you receive your monthly income. Set a reminder on your calendar so it becomes a set routine.
Payment Posting Times
Payment processing times depend on the method used:
-
Instant – Online, phone, and in-person payments are posted instantly if paid before 8:00 PM.
-
Next Business Day – Mailed payments allow 1 business day for receipt and posting.
-
Longer Delays – Allow 3-5 days for mail payments originating outside Georgia. Payments of large dollar amounts may also take longer to clear and post.
View your account online to see the date your most recent payment was applied. If you need to discuss a billing or payment issue, contact Georgia Power customer service for assistance at 1-888-660-5890.
Avoid Disconnection with Prompt Payment
If an account becomes past due, a disconnection notice is issued showing the disconnection date if the total past due amount is not paid. To avoid service interruption, payment arrangements must be made before the disconnection date.
Georgia Power wants to keep you connected. Call customer service immediately if you anticipate difficulty paying a past due bill so arrangements can be made. Available options include:
- Payment extensions – Up to 30 extra days to pay the past due amount
- Payment plans – Spread the past due amount over 2-6 monthly payments
- Budget billing – Pay an averaged bill amount each month to catch up
- Assistance referrals – Income-eligible customers can receive bill payment assistance
As long as a payment plan is in place before the disconnection date, your service will remain on. Avoid fees and the hassle of disconnection by paying on time each month or contacting Georgia Power immediately if you anticipate a payment issue.
Payment Assistance Programs
If you are struggling to keep up with electric bills, payment assistance may be available. Programs helping income-qualified Georgia Power customers include:
- Project SHARE – Provides emergency bill payment assistance donated by customers and employees
- LIHEAP – Federally funded bill payment assistance through local community agencies
- Salvation Army – Helps limited income households avoid disconnection
